Week 8

A late and short posting due to the holiday and birthday party!

Food

  • Kath brought marinated broccoli and Sabra pepper humus with her own pita chips she made. Lisa called her an a$%hole for making her own chips.....out of love of course!
  • Wine......no wined about anything. Wait....we did have wine, just cannot remember what it was!!!

Knit Projects

  • Margi had her last stocking made, just wanted to add some gem stones to the tree design on it. I plan on taking pictures of all three!
  • Kathleen still working on Einstein sweater, Celtic scarves and making a felted bag as a gift. Hoping to get pictures of all this coming meeting!
  • JoAnn's smoke ring project is coming out soooo beautiful! She will be able to wear it out on the town......even if she decides to vacation in Siberia!
  • Lisa....well I caught a glimpse of Margi doing some rip out on her sweater, didn't ask!
  • Myself....I have to finish my Einstein sweater and make about 4 more of the Celtic scarves. I had better get going on them!

Topics Talked About

  • Baseball withdrawal
  • My plans for my daughter's birthday party, her "Derek Jeter" theme she wants.
  • the "60 Minutes" episode about the right of death, that was a HOT topic since we have a few of us in the medical field in the group.
  • Kathleen going for another job interview and really considering taking it if offered.
  • A little politics since we have some drama with the Board of Education seat up for another election.

I will be better posting for this week, hopefully tomorrow!

More on Moebius

Interweave has a moebuis pattern that looks very nice to try. Amazing how once something is shown on Oprah, it becomes a hit! So.....since Oprah is leaving, who will take that over???

Moebius Scarf Class

Yarns Down Under is having a Moebius Scarf Class for ideas on a quick knit gift. Since we were just talking about this type of pattern, I thought I would post their picture and info.

Week 7

Food

  • Lisa brought a corn salsa from Whole Foods that was very good and had a lot of garlic in it!
  • Kath brought an appetizer of blue cheese whipped with marscapone cheese in a sandwich like appearance with fig in between. It was soooo good!
  • Pepperwood Pinot Noir was the wine, a favorite of the group.
  • Margi had some mini muffins, pumpkin or ginger, cannot remember which.

Knit Projects

  • Lisa brought in her finished felted bag(picture shown on right) and was just finishing up her back panel for her current project shown here. Looking good!
  • Kath had finished up three of the Celtic scarfs(picture shown to the right before being blocked) in very cool colors! We talked about the button holes, I changed the size of my button hole to only one yarn over, she felt hers were o.k.. I also changed the cast on end to have a short rib for a better finished look, and put the buttons on an angle for a more fashion finish. Picture shown to the right of my finished project. Kath is still working on the Einstein sweater, sleeves still in progress.
  • Margi is cranking out another stocking and we decided we will post the picture next week with all three. She is also going to try the Celtic scarf, can't wait to see how hers looks and what modifications she makes, if any.
  • JoAnn was working on a project which I forgot to ask about. But what was cool was she had a little show and tell. She had purchased some Musk Ox yarn, very fine but super warm since they can be in temperatures of up to 40 below! I posted a picture of the project she is doing and the yarn with it.
  • I am working still on the Einstein sweater with doing the Celtic scarfs for Christmas presents. Maybe sometime I will be able to start a sweater for myself.......maybe.

Topics Talked About

  • Smoke ring patterns, cowls, head scarves, mobious scarves...all discussed and what was popular in the 70's is back now.
  • Baseball withdrawal, we have it and will continue until spring training. I think I am going to find a countdown counter for this site to keep track of the days left until spring training.
  • Explained about the election results in my town and the controversy going on, want more info on it, click here.
  • Margi had a nice table wreath made by her husband, all of us were impressed with it and liked the idea.
  • Discussed the Sara Palin interview about her new book.
  • Foreign adoptions of older children was a hot topic. The summary of it was when you are adopting from a foreign country, some are better than others but you will most likely not get all of the medical history and information needed for issues that may arise.

Did I miss anything? I have to start posting on Tuesdays to ensure I am not forgetting the topics!

Week 6

Food

  • Lisa brought some spinach dip and two bottles of red wine made the table tonight! I brought coffee with me knowing it was going to be a long night with a nursery school meeting right after knitting.

Knit Projects

  • Lisa was finishing up her hat and still working on the vented sweater.
  • Margi finished the cords for hanging up her stockings, washed and blocked they look awesome! I will hopefully have my camera next week and take a picture of the final products. She was starting up another in green, we all loved the color while she had mixed emotions on it. Her plan was to make a Christmas tree on it using jewels as the ornaments, very creative! She also finished another hat, amazing how she can pump out these items!
  • Kath was still working on the Einstein sweater working with the sleeve that she started last week using circulars. She is getting short on yarn so a fear of running out is there. She also made these super cute neck warmers with cables, we all grabbed a copy of that!
  • JoAnn was working on the shawl, she also had a new bag of yarn and I forgot to ask her what she brought!
  • Margi's friend Maureen stopped by and was making a hat, she said it was a way to transition her back in to knitting. You mean you don't have 5 projects going at the same time????

Topics Talked About

  • First and foremost was the NYY parade. Lisa's son went to it and her friend who is a Red Sox fan. All I got out of her is that her friend said it was scary! My comment was that they reported the people were at least 25 deep lining the streets. Both Kath and I watched it on TV, agreed A-Rod's hat was goofy.
  • Spoke briefly about my election and how it was a great night.
  • Jodi Rell announced that she was not running for Governor of CT again, health more likely the reason.
  • Spoke a little about candy in school, specifically in nursery school and why there should be no reason to have it there. Seems to me everyone is on the same page where less sugar being given, chocking on hard candy and healthy eating habits.
  • H1N1 a topic, asked if my daughter was being vaccinated and I am hopefully getting in for Thursday night.
  • Kath had an interesting job interview which sounded like the people were foaming at the mouth to get her in there! Did not sound too much fun for her and not suitable for what she wants to do now in her life. She can afford to be picky.

Week 5

Food
  • I brought some homemade hummus with roasted garlic, not bad. Seems to come out different every time I make it but the consistency of this one was good, not too thick.

Knit Projects

  • Margi of course finished both stockings, picture inserted on left. They were outstanding and each had their own unique pattern with one having a Red Sox theme. She also finished a neat neck warmer scarf which kath is modeling on the right.
  • Lisa started and looked like she was almost finished with a hat pattern that gift, she is also still working on her vented sweater. Lover her yarn for this, picture inserted on the right.
  • JoAnn is still working on her shawl and has started another project, remind me what it was JoAnn!
  • Kath is finishing up the Einstein sweater, she is on the sleeves which we both commented that it was a bizarre way to seem the top of the shoulder rather than underneath hiding it. She started to attempt to put it on a circular needle, had to rip out after forgetting to alternate knit and purl rows, tricky! The top of the shoulder is the only seem area on this sweater which is nice for finishing.
  • Myself, finished the Einstein sweater for my daughter and working on the other on for a gift. I am trying to pick out a sweater for myself with all of the yarn I have. Found a pattern but might be short on the yarn.

Topics Talked About

  • No surprise we ripped apart the Yankee line up and questioned if this was going to be the winning night. We had good reason to be weary but as we all know, they won in the place they should have won which was at home in the new stadium with Andy as the pitcher. Kath and I would have gone to the parade if it was on Monday, but being held today at 11am, I think I will just watch it on TV.
  • The other major topic we talked about was the image on women. Starting out in grade school to high school, women are automatically put in this image of having to have looks, material items and status. One mistake made seems to carry into your life, and how it does not seem to do this for men. We all agreed we would never want to go back to high school, and what was hard then seems to be even harder now. Building self esteem, values and communication. There is no easy fix and the topic will always come up as a "how" and "why".
  • I know I missed some topics due to the time line. Please post what I missed!
